About This Game Brother Wings is a shoot up jet fighter game with vertical scrolling. In this game the player can choose between controlling Marko or Guida, brothers and pilots. As a game there isn't much hereA pretty basic SHMUP with no unlocks.The art style is nice (with the exception of the player ship which looks terrible - looking like a low poly render of a wonky ms paint jet fighter, with two swiveling turrets that seem to float in front of the wings) and the game feels good to play, however this genre of games is very basic to make (the kind of thing you can make in gamemaker in a few hours) and this does nothing special aside from the art style. There are some basic powerups (get back a life, fire more bullets at once, ect.) and a few different enemies and bosses. again it's all ok but nothing special.As is to be expected the music is an annoying repetative guitar loop, which would be fine except the only option for the audio is music on and off, and every game you play the music turns back on, so if you want to play with your own music and not just turn your volume all the way down you better not forget that, especially since there is no way back to the menu once a game starts other than killing yourself, which takes a while since you have a few frames on invulnerablity after taking a hit.Also it seems the leaderboards are broken, which is pretty terrible in a game all about getting a highscore.The biggest positive is the easy 100% achievements, so if that's something you care about either buy or wait for a sale depending of wether or not 80p is worth it for you personally.. Pretty bad, easy 100% achievements though.. I personally purchased this game. I reviewed it for my 99 Cent Gaming series.Being a big lover of all things SHMUPs I couldn't wait to take this game on for my first impression series. I was really afraid I'd be unfair in my review due to this love but decided I would give it my best go. Somehow, I still came away from this highly disappointed.For starters, Time Attack mode does not work as described. Selecting this mode did not show any timer and no indicator that you were nearing the required number of enemies to reset it. At first I thought Infinity Mode was selected by accident. It wasn't. To make sure I even played Time Attack mode without killing any enemies for a couple of minutes with no consequence.Secondly, and this is only because I've dabbled in the program's tutorials myself concerning SHMUPs, the entire game feels like the developer took all the basics from GameMaker's tutorial on how to make this type of game (or perhaps completed it fully) and swapped in his own assets without giving anything a unique spin. Everything from the scrolling background to the random movements of enemies is straight out of the basic tutorial.Now, while the first issue is more likely a bug that can be fixed pretty easily (the developer probably just needs to delete or modify a faulty event) and will probably be addressed in an update, it's really the second issue that drove my final verdict.Many would take the easy route and say the game just isn't good because of the lack of variety and overall feel of a copy\/paste job. While others see a bad game, I see a fellow SHMUP fan taking their (or his) love for the genre and showcasing what they've learned and apply it to their own game. Looking at this objectively (and with my love for SHMUPs) the only thing that makes me not recommend this game is having a price at all. As I've made it a goal to only do these first impression on the premise that games are bought out of pocket, the 99 cents spent on Brother Wings was 99 cents too many. If they had released this for free as a game maker showcase, or even released this build as a demo while continuing to work on adding their own unique spin to the overall package it would have been a no brainer to recommend this. In its current form, even if Time Attack worked, I cannot recommend this game. I would love to revisit this as updates are made and hope Brogames have some planned in the future.Usually I have more to say in my video review but every point was hit here.
